How to Travel with Jewellery

It’s important to understand how to travel with jewellery, even if no one is going on vacation these days. Transporting your accessories can get messy quickly – especially if you have multiple chains, necklaces, or gemstones. It doesn’t have to be a hassle, though. By properly storing jewellery while you travel, you can save yourself some time. Untangling chains and necklaces or having to repair broken accessories are tedious and can ruin the trip.

Whether you’re moving to a new home, visiting your loved ones, or taking the vacation of a lifetime, you should understand how to travel with jewellery.

Below is a video with all the information you need to know. For anyone who wants the run-down:

  • Travel cases or packaging that come with jewellery are best. These are usually made with the jewellery in mind.
  • Travel light and with items you’re okay losing.
  • If you don’t have access to jewellery-specific cases/containers, alternatives can be found around the house. Think of items like straws, mint containers, and dishcloths with elastic bands wrapped around the ends.

For details, be sure to watch the full video below.

With all that in mind, be sure to research the proper way to store jewellery. Different materials have different requirements, and thus must be handled accordingly. Learning how to travel with jewellery isn’t a one-size-fits-all situation: you need to understand the accessories, what they’re made of, and how to maintain them. A great example of this is a pearl accessory: they should never be stored in plastic, but rather in moisture-free jewellery boxes.

NOTE: While HOJ doesn’t advise people to travel and encourages people to follow the COVID-19 lockdown procedures, we’re sharing this information so that when travel does open up, it’s readily available. This video was recorded prior to the current lockdown procedures with the intent to help people understand how to organize and store their jewellery better.
