Engagement ring trends are so numerous that they can be hard to keep track of! Thanks to technology, we’re able to come out with so many different styles and designs that it’s hard to tell what’s in and what’s a little out there – but don’t fret! We’ve gathered our favourite trends and listed them in this article to help you navigate the most exciting of the bunch.
1. Gallery Detailing
Sometimes, it’s just all about the little things.
It may not be the first thing you notice about a ring, but adding small details to the gellery is a great way to make your engagement ring stand out from the others. Maybe you want to add a few melee diamonds here and there or add a complex twisting design – whatever it is, this is one of those engagement ring trends we hope stays for a long time.
2. Diamond Alternatives
Whether you’re looking for lab grown diamonds or raw diamonds, adding a stone that’s more on the alternative side is all the rage right now! There are so many options to choose from these days, so be sure to shop around before you set your decisions in stone.
3. Coloured Accents
Adding in mini coloured gemstones is becoming increasingly popular. Most people go with rubies or sapphires – two of the most popular stones right now. However, engagement rings are supposed to reflect the person wearing them, so any stone will do. The room for creativity makes this engagement ring trend very popular among millenials.
4. Coloured Centre Stones
Similar to coloured accents, having a gemstone as the centre stone allows for a lot of creativity and individuality. Saphires and rubies are the more popular stones for this, but there’s also a signifigant number of people requesting for morganite and emerald, too.
5. Fun Shapes
We’re not just talking about marquis and pears here – even though they, too are on the rise. Hexagons, diamonds, and even shapes that don’t have names are popping up in jewellery stores and on people’s fingers everywhere. For people who like unique engagement ring trends, you’re going to want to look into this more.
6. Mixed Metals
By mixing metals together people are able to have personal jewellery that means something to them. Of course, there are people who swear by keeping like metals together. However, if done right, it can produce some amazing results!
7. Yellow Gold Rings
Every so often, yellow gold comes back into style, and right now it’s hot! For many people, yellow gold is the absolute best option for engagement rings because of their classic style, while others think it’s a bit dated. Either way, having a gold band is very in vogue.
8. Rose Gold Rings
Similarly to yellow, rose gold is very in style right now. Rose gold rings are more soft and romantic compared to other metals. Often times they’re paired with morganite, but they also look great with both unfinished diamonds and classic ones.
9. Nature Inspired Designs
Organic looks are very in (especially if you have a fall or spring wedding). You can go for a flower looking halo, a leafy gallery, or something in-between. These rings are often set in gold or white gold, but adding in different coloured gemstones can make it that much more special. The nature inspired theme is compatible with other engagement ring trends, so why not have fun and play around with it?
10. Vintage Rings
Actually vintage or just vintage inspired, many people are drawn towards classic designs – and for a good reason. There’s nothing more elegant than an old school cool halo emerald or a giant shiny pearl.
11. Stacked and Nested Rings
These engagement ring trends are going strong – and rightfully so! The stacked or nested design is absolutely gorgeous and offers a lot of creativity. Not only can you have gorgeous two or three layers of rings, but you can also style them in a way that is unique to the person who will be wearing them.
12. The Double Shank
Double shanks are a great way to add some extra flair without being overbearing. Whether you want them intertwined, tightly forming around the stone to make a halo, or something in-between, double shanks are always a good choice. While these were popular way back in the day, we’re hoping this trend becomes a permanent staple in fashion.
13. Unique Halos
Halos are always in style, but it’s the way the halo is formed that comes and goes. Are you looking for a Princess Diana-esque floral halo, or maybe a halo made of baguette cut diamonds? There are many different examples of unique halos online, the hard part is figuring out which one you like best.
14. East-West Setting
While marquis and pear cuts are very popular, people are having them set sideways – also known as the East-West setting. While having the stone sitting upright, or North-South, some people want something a little less orthodox. East-West is eye-catching because of how uncommon it once was. Now, it’s a huge trend because it’s so eye-catching – in a gorgeous way, of course!
15. Unique Clusters
Clusters have always been a solid choice, but now moreso because of the unique asymmetrical designs. People are designing all kinds of unique clusters that it’s hard to even categorize the shapes! There are so many possibilities with different stone sizes and colours, it’s no wonder this is one of the more popular engagement ring trends – it’s very easy to get a one-of-a-kind cluster ring!
16. Two and Three Centre Stones
When it came to centre stones, rings usually had one or three. Even with three, a lot of the designs were generic with three similar shapes rings with one on both sides being a bit smaller or all three being the same size. Now, many people are getting creative with their designs. The three stones vary in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and formations. Others are sticking to two stones and coming up with all kinds of gorgeous designs. The point is, people are getting creative with their engagement rings.
