June’s zodiac signs are very different. Gemini is an air sign, aloof and free-willed, while Cancer is a water sign, full of emotion. Gemini (May 21st to June 20th)

Etymology

As you may now, the term “gemini” is Latin for twins. This constellation gets its name because it contains two major stars: Castor and Pollux.

The Babylonians believed that Castor and Pollux were The Great Twins, a pair of minor gods named Meshlamtaea and Lugalirra. Meshlamtaea translates to “the one rises from the Underworld” and Lugalirra, “Mighty King.” It’s said that the names are linked to titles from the god of the Underworld, Nergal, and guard the gates leading into it.

The Greeks had a similar belief with Castor and Pollux, who were said to be twins of the same name. They shared the same mother, Leda, a Spartan queen, however, Pollux’s father was the god Zeus, and Castor’s father was King Tyndareus of Sparta (although that is up for debate). Together, they had many adventures, such as saving their sister, Helen of Troy, from a neighbouring king and travelling with the Argonauts. Legend says that Castor was mortal, unlike Pollux, and when he passed, Pollux requested that Zeus bring Castor back so they could live together for eternity.

Traits

Depending on who you ask, some people will say that anyone born under the Gemini sign is two-faced, has a split personality, or quickly jumps between hot and cold. That’s all up for debate, of course.

Geminis are said to be independent people who can make friends easily, but are quick to temper. They can easily pick up even the smallest of details, and are always on the move. Indecisive and impulsive, yes, but also intelligent and adaptable.

Interests

Geminis are interested in technology, so of course they’re well-informed on all the latest trends. Being alone may sound unpleasant, but to a Gemini, it sounds like the perfect opportunity to curl up with a good book. They’re also said to enjoy challenges, which may include learning languages or attempting new and difficult projects.

Cancer (June 21st – July 22)

Etymology

Through time, Cancer has been represented by other creatures, including a scarab beetle in Ancient Egypt and a turtle in Mesopotamia. That’s because the term referring to scratching. These cultures usually see the crab as pushing the sun into the summer solstice. However, Vedic astrology says that their version of Cancer, Karka, and associated with the moon. In Greek mythology, Cancer represents the crab that Hercules fought as the second of his 12 labours, but sometimes is also depicted as a lobster.

Traits

Cancers are said to be very emotional, often sad or crying. They can also be mysterious and distant, even uncommunicative. However, they also put an emphasis on their personal relationships. Cancers are generous and loyal to those they love.

Interests

Cancers are homebodies, and as such, they enjoy many home-based activities. Think reading, puzzles, and catching up on Netflix shows. They’re also interested in viewing and creating art. Again, because they put such emphasis on their loved ones, helping friends and looking through sentimental photos are activities they enjoy.
